Pono Hawaiian Grill downtown closes its doors

Aloha from Braddah Timmy,

I’d like to begin by saying mahalo to all of our valued customers. We miss seeing each and every one of you and sharing our aloha with you… We hope you’re healthy and safe during these uncertain and nerve-wracking times of COVID-19.

Due to the fallout and severe financial impact of COVID-19 Pono Hawaiian Grill has made the decision to close its doors at its 120 Union Street location. It was not an easy decision but we just could not hold on any longer. We are deeply saddened by this and words cannot express the immense gratitude we have for our community that was built over the last 8 years there in that location.

From Aloha Fridays with live Hawaiian musicians from near and far, hula dancers dancing beneath that ceiling to our incredibly wonderful community of Santa Cruz who has supported us year after year bringing Ohana and friends near and far to experience our Aloha, we will deeply miss you all and all the memories that were shared over the years.

We don’t want any of our customers to be confused either by what is continuing on in our old space. Pono has built a wonderful reputation and authentic Hawaiian menu that we want you to know is still here in town, but no longer at 120 Union! While there are several versions of plate lunch being presented around sc, I stand true to my roots and the recipes of my Ohana from Hawai’i itself.

Come see us inn Capitola at: 3744 Capitola Road on the east side of Santa Cruz featuring 16 different craft beers, canned independent craft beer, ciders, hard kombucha, and our awesome and truly Hawaiian menu available by heading in or calling (831) 476-7458.

We work with Doordash home delivery as well.

We wish each and every one of you peace, safety, good health and strength through these difficult and trying times and hope that one day we will return to another possible location near you…

Mahalo nui loa, -Braddah Timmy
