Wow, it seems to me that these great friends of Pono, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara County, and too many other locales in No. California to mention, are busy every weekend with multiple gigs or kokua events. Even so, they are always able to save a Friday for us at Pono and for our customers. This year is no exception.
Added to the Ho`ikes, Luaus, restaurant performances, backyard parties and Festivals, they have somehow found the time to sneak off to Las Vegas and the great producer and recording studio they’ve found and to record their next CD.
Several of us connected with Pono in some form, have known this group for close to 10 years or more and we’ve grown with them as we’ve watched them become like a finely tuned engine – knowing and anticipating each other’s quirks and strengths, yet remaining fresh and vibrant and able to easily incorporate guest musicians who want to join them from time to time.
And their harmonies become finer and finer all the time, as they play and sing songs from many eras. Hula dancers claim that they are a joy to dance for because they are so familiar with the songs and many hula moves that may accompany the singing. With that being said, we and they urge all who know the song being sung to kick off your slippahs and join in.
As always is the way at Pono there is no cover, but there will be one of the lovely servers by the door to receive your donation of $10 – or whatever is comfortable, to help Ho`omana wrap up that CD and get it to market. So call your friends and join us on Sept 9th. Aloha!
