Brian Pi`ikea Vasquez – `Ukulele Madness

  • 3 July 2015 7:00pm

Brian first appeared at Pono 3 Summers ago coming over from Kailua-Kona.   We missed him last Summer but have got him locked in this year. He is yet another representative of the “Big Island Connection” Pono seems to enjoy.  An energetic `ukulele player who plays ’em all.  All types of music, that is.  Whether it be Hawaiian traditional or contemporary, rock or blues, reggae or mainland oldies, Brian is the guy to play `em.  Here’s a brief bio from his website:

“Brian and his “Pupule Picking” Style!

The dictionary defines “pupule” as crazy, wild, insane. Which is exactly how he plays his ukulele!

Brian Vasquez, master ukulele player was born with an ukulele in his hand and music running through his veins. His career began at age 5, when his father, Phillip Vasquez asked Brian to share his stage at the Kona Inn, in the heart of Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. Brian has been entertaining ever since. Brian’s unique `ukulele Pupule (crazy) Picking style has touched many visitors and locals of Hawai`i alike. Brian’s music is unlimited in style, but shares a common thread of intense energy. It ranges from traditional Hawaiian music, Contemporary Island Sounds, Oldies, Latin, Reggae and even a touch of Rap, all played Brian Style! ”

Brian’s newly released (April of this year) CD,  “KONA DAZE” will be available for sale and signing.

Tho we won’t be requesting a cover charge for entry, we do hope you can help out with a $10 donation at the door to help the musicians with travel and lodging expenses.
