On April 7th. Aldon will be back at Pono at the usual 6:30 to Rock Da House with some wicked uke pieces. Or will it be a bunch of gentle and melodious tunes. Undoubtedly it will be both – with lots of variety in between. I think Aldon first played Pono back in 2012, appearing with Santa Cruz surfer/fiddler/entrepreneur Stan Meidinger. Since then he has come to play and visit about three times per year – in between working as a Cruise Ship Entertainer or teaching `ukulele in and around his San Jose home.
Ewa Beach, Hawai`i raised, Aldon left The Islands after graduating High School in 1983, and went on to college in Oklahoma (of all places). There he studied Visual and Performing Arts, but more important is that there he met his wife-to-be, the lovely Kaye. Kaye dances hula, and if we are lucky we might be able to get her up onto the floor for a dance or two.
He writes;   “I’ve been playing Hawaiian music in the SF bay area for 25 years and have been teaching `ukulele for about that long as well. I played with the local band “Ka Ehu Kai” for 9 years, but have since gone on to become a musician for hire with several local bands, and active `ukulele soloist.” Like many uke players he is not limited to any one genre, and enjoys and plays all music, tho his heart is in Hawaiian mele.
As is the custom at Pono, no cover will be charged, tho one of our charming servers will be at the donation station by the door, to collect any donation you are able to offer to the musician. Call your Uke loving, or simply Hwn food loving friends and come join us on April 7th.
